Birch Burl Barrettes

The birch burl in these wooden barrettes came from my wood turning friend, Dustin Coates, in Etna, New Hampshire. Dustin is a fine bowl turner and works a great deal in burls. I think he has trained all the local woodsmen to bring him the burls they find when cutting timber. He very generously shared the cut off corners left over from the initial trimming of a bowl blank to the round shape. These burls suggest a sunrise burst to my eye. They are very rich and warm. The backs are approximately 2 5/8 inches but may vary with the size of the piece of burl.
