Spalted Maple Clasp

This clasp for knitted shawls and scarves is made of spalted maple.

Spalting occurs when fungus gains entry into the wood and grows as the wood slowly dries. When the wood is dry the fungal growth ceases. The result is a very interesting pattern of light and dark areas of wood, and lines which may be completely black.

It is just natural at work, and our minds are always attracted to natural. While we can’t see the law of nature directly, we can see the result of the law and it attracts our attention.

The nice thing about this jewelry is it it can be used with different colored wood discs or different pins to match or contrast with the color of any garment that is being worn.
