Lidded Boxes In Cherry And Poplar

The little box on the right is made of poplar, generally considered an inferior wood. It is from my store of "Jarrettsville ash" given to me by one of my students.

He took his neighbor's word for the identification of the species. It may have had something to do with the neighbor's eagerness to clear his driveway of this wood.

My student and I have had many laughs over the "Jarrettsville Ash" but have come to appreciate the qualities of poplar as we work with it.

As you may have guessed, my student is from Jarrettsville, Maryland.
